"Jimmy Paulette" is one of a trio of Nan Goldin's gender-bending muses. 

Along with "Joey" and "Misty" she appears in several of Nan Goldin's most iconic images from the early 1990's. 

If you're familiar with Goldin's oeuvre than you know these two characters: - the glamorous and haughty party girl, - the pensive beauty.

This work is part of three works taken during the Gay Pride Parade in New York City; including and "Jimmy Paulette on David's Bike"

This image shows Jimmy Paulette at the end of a day of partying; sweaty, slightly disheveled, a bit vulnerable, maybe high.

It is one of Goldin's most direct and memorable portraits. A paradigm of her practice.
